I blame the DOT

I will be so glad when they get the bridge on the way to work fixed.

The bridge is on County O, a highway going from Walworth the Delevan. I live about a mile west of this road. It's the one I usually take to work. However, they are doing repair work on the bridge. So I've been taking I-43 to work.

I don't really like this, it's a highway, a big highway. I'm just on it for about two miles, I get off the first exit. So I have to merge, and get off the highway twice, (as one always does) in the course of three minutes. I really don't like it. This way also has two traffic lights which are always Red when I get to them. They've been green like 1 in 4 times.

Now usually I make a left turn into the parking lot right after the the second light. But this time the traffic at this light was backed up. A long way. So I decided to go up another 100 so yards to the next light on the street. I haven't used this light very often, but just about every time It's been terribly evil.

Last time I made a right turn, the road was wide enough for two cars, infact it became two lanes later, but it was just one lane at the light. So I pull into this lane, I guy comes along making a left turn and pulls right infront of me. I have to hit the breaks hard to get him to pass. As I continue down this road a lady in a big SUV comes squeezing passed me and the curb, as she doesn't fit where she's not supposed to be she honks at me. I get flustered and as I'm pulling into the lane "right turn only" lane to get on the highway, a guy comes racing through the the "right turn only" right before straight through, I was admittendly not paying as much attention as I should have. But he wasn't supposed to go straight through a turn only lane. I wasn't expecting that.

So this time I come up to make a left turn, I hit it, just as it turns red. I'm pulled out into the middle of the intersection to give me plenty of time to turn, like they thought me. I'm about to clear out the intersection like I'm supposed to, but I'm not exactly out in the intersection, just passed a staggergd stop for trucks to turn. So this one guy takes off as soon as possible. I don't have any time. I manage to wait there, as long as no trucks came by, I would be fine. But of course a truck DID come buy, he makes his left turn around me. Then stops in the middle of the intersection and honks at me. He apparently thought I was in the way. Except that he had plenty of space to get by, and I had no where to go.

I managed to turn my car a bit to the right to "give him space". But the whole thing was quite aggravating.

You know, if Trucks didn't cross the bridge on County O it wouldn't need repair so much. I take it back, I blame it all on trucks. Helicopters should just fly all the stuff every where.

It's a small world after all

Last Sunday. Ember, a girl in our homeschool group, had a graduation party. I really didn't know her that well, it'd been a long time since I'd seen her last, and when we did get together for the teen group stuff we didn't hang out much then either. But our families where good friends and I thought it courtious to go along and grace them with my presence.

It was a fun party. They had food, and everyone was very nice. We played a game of vollyball, wich was great fun. I never kenew how much I liked that game. I must have gotten better or something just by growing.

Now, this was an open house party, so people where coming and going all the time. When I noticed todays graduate talking to a girl. A girl that looked very familiar. She worked up at the front desk of Piggly Wiggly. Now the party is in Beloit, Piggly Wiggly is in Delvan, they're about half an hour drive appart.

So I walk up to her and say, "I think I know you."

Great way to start conversation...

S'mores

At work.

I'm facing the candy aisle. This guy is looking at the marshmallows. (I don't know what other stores are like, but we keep the marshmallows with the candy.) I've just finished up and I'm about to move on aisle 5 when he comes over to me and askes me where he could find chocolate. You know, the kind of chocolate you put in with marshmallows. I jumped to the (wrong) conclusion that he wanted to make chocolate rice crispy treats. So I'm about to tell him to go to aisle nine where we have the chunks of bulk chocolate for fondue. He did say something about dipping... (I think) He asks, "you know, with the crackers and marshmallows?"

S'mores? I ask if he's talking about the fire roasted marshmallows sandwitched between crackers. "YES!" he exclaims, "What kind of chocolate do I use?" I point out the Hershies right behind me and tell him about the grahm crackers in aisle 8. He was worried that he might get salty crackers and that they wouldn't taste good.

I find it a little odd that someone wouldn't know what S'mores where. But odder that they didn't know what Gram crackers where. Maybe he was foreign... or a secret shopper.

I broke another plastic bottle of fabric softener. Breaking Plastic bottles? They fell less than two feet. And their Plastic for goodness sake. But they have these brittle plastic lids that shatter under the slightest impact. And they always land upside down. When I got the bottle of spill clean up (it's used for absorbing nasty messes.) and am running to the break room to grab some paper towels I run into Nolan. (he was the manager around when I smashed the first bottle of fabric softener.) He gives me a quizzical look. All I say is,

"I don't think I should face the fabric softener anymore."

He laughed. I fealt so much better that I knew he wasn't mad.

I signed up for classes at gateway tech. It's an electronics 101. This seems like it should be cool. But I can't help but feel a little nervous. I got a student ID and everything. Rachel said I should be able to get a facebook but they didn't give me an e-mail address, I'll have to ask about that.

But the interesting part was when I got to the book store. We [my mom and me] had a fun casher.

"Electronics! Cool, are you learning to make bombs?"
"uuhh..." "Yeah, sure."
"I tell you, no one under our generation knows the fine use of sarcasm."
"u-huh..."
[Mom] "Clearly she doesn't live at our house."
[casher] "Yeah, it's cool sometimes, you're like, 'it's not just me!' Okay, like at my other job we freaked out the new people our manager kept asking us if we had cleared out this or that dead body and we kept saying that they wouldn't hurt anybody... yet... It totally freaked them out."
