Ian Bernardo

For anyone who didn't see American Idol on Wednesday, I present to you, Ian Bernardo. This video is soooooo funny.

In other news, I'm pathetically sick, so I need to be hopping off to bed. (except not hopping, because hopping uses so much energy.)

On... Wisconsin?

It was Wednesday evening, on the Madison Fox news. We had just finished watching American Idol that night; still had the TV on (strange, we usually turn it right off). It was talking about a piece of legislation the Wisconsin state government wanted to pass. Now, because in the November elections last year the voters passed an amendment to the state constitution banning gay marriages, the Liberal government officials didn't want to swear to uphold this "unjust" (as they called it) constitution. So they want to pass a law that says they don't have to swear to uphold the "whole" constitution, just the parts they agree with.

Now I just about fall out of my seat when I heard this. (Well, technically I wasn't sitting, so I hadn't a seat to fall out of.)

This wasn't because they were in favor of gay marriages, but because they just wanted to dash and destroy the constitution. This is the constitution! We don't just ignore it when we feel like! What would they say if I was about to be sworn into office but I didn't want to support equal rights for Women of "ethnic minorities"? (I can't think of the un-politically correct word for it right now... ;-) ) Or if I wanted to ban free speech?

Well, even if by some miracle they didn't object. I know they certainly would grumble about it. This shows that they really don't mean what they say this legislation is about (putting aside the constitution), but that they want an excuse to ignore the voters wishes for their own personal agenda.

Didn't we used to hang people who did that?

Pet Shops

So, apparently nobody really likes our boss. I had suspected this before, but yesterday I found out for sure. See, the assistant manager is planning this exodus. She and a couple of cashiers (maybe a few others) are all planning on applying at the Pet Smart that's opening just down the road. Apparently they like me, and want me to come along.

I really don't know about this. I've just now gotten the hang of swing of this job pretty well; it would be rather futile to just change right now. I do rather like the people that're leaving, and I don't dislike our boss, but I'm not the most fond of him. For example the one time It was snowing something terrible in November, I called in to say that if he still wanted me to come in, I'd be terribly late. All he said was to be sure to be here even if it took 'till noon to shovel. When I got in an hour late, I didn't even get a thank you, Though the managers of the other departments exclaimed that it was awesome that I actually came in.

However, I really don't know if this is just me being selfish (asking for some undeserved thank you) or not. This is my first job (the paper rout doesn't count as the same), so I have nothing to compare it with.
It also seems like it would be a poor spot on my reputation to just up and leave for another store. They would look at me and say, "How do we know that you wont just leave us?" Also, they always ask in interviews why I want to work for them. So if I did do this, what would I tell them? "My assistant manager asked me to?" Then when the call my boss to ask what kind of employee I am, he'll most likely want to know why I want to leave.

Any reasons I can think of as to why I'm not fond of this job are either totally bad reasons (there is no completely fun work) or I really don't know if it is a good reason.

Well, except for the fact that I'm completely and totally exhausted when I get home. I've really picked up the pace as work the past few months, and I've been getting more and more exhausted. I don't have hardly any energy for school and I'm getting behind. So I was thinking about possibly asking if they're in need of cashiers. That definitely looks like less exhausting work. The problem with this is that (I feel egotistical saying this) I've got to do at least as much work as the other two guys combined.

So, thinking about all of this, I wonder if this is what people mean when they say, "stress"?

"Quiet son, I am making... TOAST!"

I had French toast for breakfast today. My younger siblings have been doing this for quite some time now. French toast all the time. I decided I'd like to try this. So I pulled out the eggs and the milk and made me three slices of French toast.

It was very delicious... at first. After I had eaten most of it, I was feeling quite full, and I had had so much, that the taste of toast was starting to get old. Suffice to say that in the end, I'll stick with my usual breakfast; two slices of lightly toasted bread with peanut butter and jelly.

"Who's downstairs?" - "Paul is."

I often take off my glasses during church. Wearing my glasses for too long makes my eyes weary. Usually I put them back on when I walk home, except today. So as I'm walking home from church I notice how I can see much clearer than normal. I always seem to see better on bright, sunny days. I think I figured out why.

See, in Drivers Ed, and on the bates method website, I learned that we only see clearly with a small portion of our eyes. Only about three degrees in the center of our vision. Bad eyesight is often because of poor focus. We don't look through the small portion that is clear, we look at everything at once. This stresses the eye. And thus we get... Bad eyesight!

This explains why squinting help us see a little clearer. Because when we squint, we're partially closing up our eyes, covering up part of it. This causes less field of vision to distract from the three degrees of clearness. And... We see a little better.

So, when it's dark out eye's dialate. Making our pupils bigger, making eyesight worse. When it's bright, we get smaller pupils, and better eyesight.
