Maturity

Maturity is, I believe, the ability of a person to deal with life.

It is most emphatically not about whether he acts like a two year old or a seventy year old. It's not about being goofy or serious. It's about understanding people, events, situations, and dilemmas.

A fellow might be totally calm. Carry on pleasant small talk with the older folks as an equal, doesn't engage in much activity, and yet doesn't stand up for his principles when they are attacked.

He might freak out when his car runs out of gas on the limited access highway, he might stare blankly, his mind reeling when someone insults him, he might be upset and confused for days when his girlfriend breaks up with him.

All these show that he's not mature.

Yet someone could understand the complexities of life. He could understand that bad things happen, that dirty jobs have to get done, realize that sometimes other people just have bad days, and he could dance around like a monkey to Raffi music, being completely mature.
